New solo album Silver Lining just released!

 Layout 1

My new solo album SILVER LINING was just released today! Also available on Amazon and Tzadik.com.  It is a collection of dedications to many of my musical mentors, and a reflection on the unexpectedly good things that for me have grown out of the hardships of the pandemic: new experiences, lessons learned, skills acquired, creative solutions, and adaptation inspired by necessity.

New LP with Bill Frisell and Julian Lage (music by John Zorn) now available for pre-order!

Many of you know that I had the extreme pleasure of recording an album recently with Bill Frisell and Julian Lage (two of my favorite guitar players on the planet)…and I’m happy to announce that it is now available for pre-order on vinyl! The music composed by John Zorn is really beautiful, and the cover art features Giovanni Bellini’s The Ecstasy of Saint Francis, which will look awesome on a big fat LP! Now is the best time to support Tzadik Records, a label that has given voice to so many wonderful artists worldwide. They were hit hard by the demise of Pledge Music and were never paid for John Zorn’s epic Masada Book 3 (11 albums, including a duo album of Julian Lage and myself called Chesed, now available as an individual CD as well). I hope many of you will join me in supporting Tzadik and pre-order any or all of these LPs just now made available in an attempt to offset this huge financial loss. Thanks for listening! -Gyan

Sprig is up for Grammy consideration!

My album Sprig is in the first round of the 2019 Grammy Awards for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. I spent 5 years working on this one…all the elements had to feel right before releasing it, especially as it is dedicated to the memory of my mother! Thanks for listening.

Sprig video up!

In early March my pal Adam Benn and I flew out to CA and made a music video for the title track of my latest solo album, Sprig. The wintery landscapes were stunningly beautiful and I felt blessed to be able to capture some of the magic of the Sierra Foothills where I grew up. Huge thanks to Odd Exhibit Productions and Chris Harvey for the fantastic animation!
